Let customers speak for us
from 20 reviewsAs a long-time reader, collector and follower of R. Crumb's various phases and style shifts in both content and drawing technique I think he is at the top of his game now. "Tales of Paranoia" is most definitely NOT for the casual "Fritz" or "Keep On...etc." comic reader in the same way the band Devo's biggest "hit" (yes, "Whip It") was certainly not the best representation of their much deeper message, hard as that might be for some folks to swallow. I applaud Mr. Crumb for the intense scrutiny he's applying the current state of the USA, albeit from the relative safety and apparent comfort of his home in France. Upon first glance when flipping through this "comic" I was stunned by the verbiage to artwork ratio present (yes, I know they're both art since he hand letters every single line of dialogue) on the pages of this book, and I knew right then and there I was in for a challenging and eventually rewarding read. His self doubt and introspection coupled with an extremely strong suspicion of all things corporate and/or political (if there's even a difference) is refreshing and never feels like he's trying to convince anyone of anything, just positing HIS particular take on the way things are. I sincerely hope he's busily working on a follow up or even something in a completely different direction now that this one's finished but even if he's not it's a definite "must have" for anyone who truly appreciates the scope and sheer talent this man shares with us mere mortals. He's got WAY more tricks up his sleeve than funny, "dirty" or otherwise socially unacceptable illustrated tales but I can never get enough!
Brings back memories when I met Tim at a con in the 1980's scoring a bloody sketch (tame by today's standard) of Grips.
Comic arrived as slabbed at a 7.0 through CGC. Comics were well packed and shipped promptly. Great experience. Thanks Daphne!
Bagged & boarded and in excellent condition. Bold stories, gorgeous artwork, and quality presentation… I’m hooked!
Awesome! Great condition and price, arrived FAST and very well packaged. Thank you!
Loved my experience. Fast shipping. Excellent packaging and attention to detail. I appreciate the goodies, and my handwritten note! I have already placed my next order and look forward to continuing my business with Curator of Comics. Cheers
Fantastic communication! Great comics, arrived fast and well packaged - Thank you!
I received a fairly large order, containing over a dozen items, almost all TPBs and a large-sized hardback two-volume collection. All the items arrived in pristine condition due to the care that Daphne at Curator of Comics, took in packaging my order. It is always a pleasure dealing with Curator - they provide excellent customer service and quick shipping. This was not my first order from Curator but it was my biggest. I intend to purchase from them again in the future. I strongly recommend Curator. If you're interested in some of their products, don't hesitate. Make your move. You won't be disappointed. Thanks again Daphne and Curator!
Package arrived fast and in great condition. Nothing but good things say. Thank you!
I am a film noir and an H.P. Lovecraft Cthulhu horror fan. This TPB, the first in a series, nicely combines both genres. The story teems with characters you would find in a good film noir - crooked cops, nosy journalists, murders and, of course, the femme fatale, in this case, the lovely, intoxicating and mysterious Josephine, who hides secrets and is not the woman the helpless men who fall under her spell think she is. A cult of villains with a twist of Lovecraftian horror completes the setting.
Brubaker has woven an excellent tale, effectively interweaving modern days with flashbacks to the past, providing a gallery of characters and events that provide the structure that set the events in motion. Phillips' art perfectly captures the faces, fashion and action that abound in film noir. You can almost feel the grime of the dark underworld of the city. As you can tell, I was very favorably impressed and, if you're a fan of the genres as I am, I highly recommend this story. You won't regret it. I am looking forward to reading the remainder of the series. I am already under Josephine's spell. :)
Excellent customer service, friendly, fast shipping, good packaging, would definitely order from again.
This TP collects all three Hyperthick comics. It combines circa 1940s comic imagery with literary, historical and whimsical references and dialog, albeit with a twist. However, it is very clever and amusing. If you're comfortable with non-linear stories, zany dialog and imagery, and can open your mind to something completely different, you will enjoy it. If you're familiar with Steve Aylett's writing, then you'll have an idea of what to expect.
I highly recommend Curator of Comics. I received my first order today. All items arrived in pristine condition. The double layer of bubble wrap, the paper frame around the items, the inner cardboard layer taped to the bubble wrap, the outside cardboard layer and, last but not least, the “fragile” stickers on top and bottom of package all served to protect the contents. Having received damaged items from other websites in the past, this was a welcome change. The order arrived sooner than expected and even included some freebies and a note from Daphne. I’m very pleased with Curator and will certainly be back for more. Now - all I need to do is sit down and read through my haul!
The quality of the book is absolutely amazing. From the gorgeous cover art to the interior work. You won’t regret picking this one up.
